Craftwork from Central Asia
July 21st to August 19th, 2022
Gallery Opening
Thursday, July 21st from 5-7pm
Nancy Lyon
Through my travels, I have been able to experience the masterful folk art of wondrous people in many parts of the world.
I have been fortunate to visit four countries in Central Asia three times and see their handwork. Each country was diverse with individual traditions. I especially loved learning about felting in Uzbekistan and helped in the construction of a yurt.
During my 33 years of teaching elementary art, I was able to share and use the items I acquired on these journeys in my lessons. Hopefully new understandings developed for the artistic beauty created by all peoples.
Photographs taken during my travels to 37 countries have been a source for my acrylic paintings. I have had several shows over the years, including work at Icon Hair Salon, and currently have a display of 30 paintings at Rio Tomatlan Mexican restaurant in Canandaigua.
It is my wish that those visiting this exhibit will leave with a broader concept of Central Asian culture.
