Cobblestone Arts Center and Teaching Artists ROC (TAROC) have teamed up to present the Passports Fall Performance Series, a new initiative celebrating cultural diversity in the Finger Lakes region. This collaborative series will feature local musicians and dancers in a lineup that invites the community to "travel the world" through immersive performances.
The series kicks off during Hispanic Heritage Month with a performance by Grupo Cultural Latinos en Rochester on Friday, September 26th at 12:30 PM, and a second, ticketed show on Saturday, September 27th. The group will showcase the beauty and rhythm of Latin American dance and music.
According to Sarah Andreacchi, Cobblestone's Performing Arts Coordinator, the series is more than just entertainment—it's an opportunity for people to come together and support local artists. "This is a first-of-its-kind event in our region," she said. To make each event even more engaging, the series will include interactive elements like food and artisan vendors.
Passport Series Lineup
Grupo Cultural Latinos en Rochester: Carnival-themed dance and music. A free performance is on Friday, September 26th, at 12:30 PM, followed by a ticketed show on Saturday, September 27th.
Ted Canning: Explores the Steel Drums of the Caribbean with interactive performances and hands-on workshops.
Dylaina Young: Teaches an Introduction to Belly Dance and explores its rich heritage as well as an Advanced Workshop.
Nanako Horikawa Mandrino: Introduces guests to the serene art of the Japanese Tea Ceremony.
WOMBA Africa: Captivates with high-energy drumming and storytelling from Ghana.
The Passports series was designed with inclusion in mind. The free Friday shows are scheduled during the day to ensure students from Cobblestone's Celebrating The Arts day program can attend. The longer, ticketed Saturday shows are open to the public for a more in-depth experience.
