Ted Canning is not only a gifted performer but also a passionate teaching artist who has dedicated his career to inspiring students and communities through music. Based in Western New York, Ted’s extensive freelance work spans classical music, theater, big band, and jazz. His performances have reached audiences across the Northeast, as well as internationally in Europe, Latin America, and the Caribbean.

A true cultural ambassador of steelpan music, Ted has performed with national champions Phase II Pan Groove in Trinidad and Tobago, alongside numerous steelbands in Brooklyn, and with world-class players from across the globe. Locally, he leads the Panloco Steelband, the “Steel Alchemy” Community Steelband, and the RIT Steel Band, while also performing with the Trinidad and Tobago Steelband.

But Ted’s work extends beyond the stage. As an educator, he uses music as a bridge to learning across disciplines—teaching math, language, history, science, and social studies through rhythm and sound. His workshops, residencies, and performances light up schools, colleges, and community centers, offering a fun and innovative way for students to learn and connect.

Now, Cobblestone Arts Center invites you to experience Ted’s energy firsthand. Enjoy the uplifting steel drum concert on Friday, then roll up your sleeves on Saturday for an interactive workshop where you become part of the band. No experience necessary—just bring your enthusiasm and let the music move you!

Don’t miss this unique opportunity to feel the beat, explore rhythm, and celebrate the joy of community music-making.

Reserve your spot today and join us for a weekend of music, learning, and fun!
